  • Praying for Members of the Congregation
  • Prayer Walk around Neighborhoods- Knock on doors and just ask if we may pray for them.
  • Keep Scouting for boys and girls in the church and find new ways to involve them
  • Equip the Mission Columbus team with a well-stocked trailer filled with all the tools and equipment they need, with the trailer painted and lettered to proclaim to the community what they are doing and how people can join in the team- Large “rolling billboard” graphics.
  • Survey different community organizations – such as United Way, Love Chapel. Are there opportunities these organizations could use help with in serving our Community from our church?
  • Find ways to leverage our facility for community exposure to Asbury/Christianity.
  • Group of volunteers that go to assist rural communities and churches – Ex. A church needed more people to get a particular goal finished so the volunteers would help that church with that goal.
  • Mini-Missions: Fund multiple groups with some $XX to help the community and share results with the church.
  • Sunday Service Projects: Have lunches followed by project work before leaving church- such as building panels for construction projects, sorting clothes, packaging food, etc
  • Go out into the community to serve: – the schools, children, homeless, those in need, grieving mothers and fathers, addict
  • Volunteer help to organizations dealing with sensory handicaps/challenges
  • Planning our Funerals – perhaps a prep in small groups
  • Equip the Praise Band with cases and equipment to take the band out into the community : “get rid of the walls”

  • Help people within the congregation put together a ‘pass it on’ package that shares their story: first their life story, then, their spiritual story. Something they could pass on to children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren.

  • Walk around the building with someone you do not know well (make notes, notice what is here, notice what needs to be done, have lunch together
  • Mentorship: people who have been married for awhile mentor newlyweds. People who have children mentor young mothers or pregnant women. Mentor Youth
  • Use People’s Spiritual gifts to group them into service “partnerships”

Getting People Involved

  • Using our skills and capabilities to do new things- leveraging our Spiritual gifts
  • Have a way of knowing passions and gifts of all at AUMC reach out to them (not the same people as usual) and to help them grow, partner them with a mentor or person who can and will walk with them.
  • Providing an opportunity for people to not only take the lead but provide the support
  • Encourage everyone to take a step out of their comfort zone.
  • We need to encourage everyone to have courage and faith to make a change and try something new.
  • “Job Fair” for Volunteer Activities we need covered
  • Understand our church population- what are our limitations?
  • Review our “business as usual” church functions and develop new ways of doing each (visitations, committee meetings, etc.)

 

Worship Theme

  • Sermon topics: Experiencing God with our 5 senses – Make albums to go with each sense
  • Various Sunday School classes or small groups could take a week to plan and lead worship
  • Worship – learn a new song or hymn each week – share CD’s for during the week
  • Create, set apart, a worship space – like we did with individual rocks on the mission trip to Live Oak
  • Intentional led quiet time with prepared scriptures and questions. After spending some amount of time in the Word – journaling, contemplating the questions,- everyone could share what they learned.
  • Plan some ideas to worship in different places- Mill Race Park or somewhere near water
  • Instead of a sermon, use the hour to read a section of scripture and to discuss the scripture and pray about the scripture
  • Involve more people in prayers during our services.
  • Having the children lead at least one Sunday service.
  • Take a tour as a congregation of different churches- have a service out at a camp or park , like Camp Moneto
  • Get a speaker from outside of Columbus, maybe nationally known
  • Outdoor worship service or outdoor retreat or picnic
