Asbury has collected 72 Cleaning Kits (Flood Buckets) and 400 Hygiene Kits. Thank you to everyone who helped with the efforts to collect and make these hurricane relief kits! These kits are on their way to the areas affected by the recent hurricanes. We have been told that no additional kits are needed at this time, so we are no longer collecting kits. If that changes, we will provide an update and collect more kits.
There are other ways to provide assistance.
Pray for the people directly affected, and also for the people helping those who are directly affected.
UMCOR – UMCOR (the United Methodist Committee on Relief) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe. UMCOR’s work includes programs and projects in disaster response, health, sustainable agriculture, food security, relief supplies, and more. 100% of donations given to specific projects go directly to those projects. You can donate to the UMCOR project here.
DiRT – This is Asbury’s Disaster Response Team. DiRT exists to provide a caring Christian presence in the aftermath of a disaster. Our trained crews travel to disaster areas to help rebuild the homes, lives, and faith of people impacted by those disasters. You can give by sending a check to Asbury United Methodist Church, 1751 27th Street, Columbus, IN 47201. Include DiRT in the memo line of your check.
Consider joining one of our DiRT crews:
We know through our experience and training that when too many volunteers arrive too early, they often make a disaster situation worse rather than better. We are developing plans for crews of volunteers to be on site as soon as the people on the ground invite us to come. We will continue to send crews long after the news crews have moved on to the next crisis.
Plans are coming together for crews to travel to the areas affected by Harvey in November or December of 2017, Spring of 2018, and possibly in the summer of 2018. If you would like to consider joining on of our crews, send a message to email@example.com.
