FAQ

asbury_launch_banner_400w_246h_10pb_10plThanks for checking us out!  Here you will find answers to some common questions our guests ask about Asbury. If you have a specific question, email asbury@asburycolumbus.org or call us at 812-372-4555.

Where are you located?
Our address is: 1751 27th St. Columbus, IN 47201

We are one block west of Central Ave. on 27th Street.

What are your two services like?
At 8:45 a.m. we have our Traditional Worship Service with hymns and choruses featuring our pipe organ. Our choir sings at this service and a special time for children teaching is a part of each worship experience. You might also hear our bell choir or other special music at this service as well. Pastor Dave shares a relevant message and the entire service lasts 1 hour.

At 11:00 a.m. we have our modern Contemporary Worship Service in our new Worship Center, which features our band and praise team leading in contemporary worship songs. Pastor Dave shares a relevant message and the entire service lasts one hour. During this worship time, the children also have their own age-appropriate service called J.A.M. (Jesus And Me); One of our hosts will be happy to show you their special space.

See our Worship page for complete details.

30425944_xxl_150w_150h_10pb_10plDo I have to dress up?
Only if you want to! You will find a wide range of outfits at Asbury ranging from jeans to suits and dresses. No one dresses up in our 11 a.m. casual service so the rule is… Be Comfortable!

Will you make me stand up or make me uncomfortable in any way?
No. Our goal is to make your visit as pleasant as possible.

Are you going to ask me for money?
We collect an offering at both services as an act of worship. Giving is our way of showing our trust in the Lord and our offering of thanksgiving for His blessings. It is for our regular attenders and guests should not feel obligated to give.

What’s up with the sign-in sheets?
One of the goals of the church is to help people connect with each other and the sign up sheets allow us to keep up with everyone. Your privacy is important to us, so we do not sell your information to any telemarketers. If you are a visitor, we will send you a thank you card, but no one will show up at your door unannounced. The sheets also give our people an opportunity to share their needs with us.

Is there childcare available during services?

The nursery is available Sunday mornings from 8:30AM to 12:15PM for babies to 3 year old’s who are not potty trained. The nursery is located in the Green Room, in the hallway just outside of the Contemporary Worship Center.

Sunday School is available for 3 year old’s (potty-trained) to high school from 10:00AM to 11:00AM.

J.A.M. (Jesus and Me), is our children’s program that is available during our 11:00 service for children who are at least 3 years old and potty-trained.  J.A.M. is located in the Kidz Zone straight down the hall from the Contemporary Worship Center.

What does Asbury do to protect my children?

At Asbury United Methodist Church, we have a Child and Youth Protection Policy to implement safety measures to demonstrate our absolute and unwavering commitment to the physical safety of all of our children and youth.

2 Person/Open Door Rule: At least two unrelated adults are present at all children and youth activities. When it is not possible to have two adults, more than one child is present to avoid one-on-one adult/child situations. Doors are either left open or contain windows for clear viewing. Activities are conducted in areas that minimize opportunity for secrecy and isolation.
•    We conduct background check on all volunteers working with youth and children
•    All volunteers are trained in the Child and Youth Protection Policy
•    Guidelines are in place for incident reporting
•    Two Person/ Open Door Rule practiced at all times

We also ask that everyone respect the privacy of all families: Do not publish photos or articles on any social media without express permission from those involved. For more information about the policy, click here.
