United Way Project

Mission Columbus is an on-going local ministry of Asbury. We provide case work and home construction in the Columbus area. The repairs are completed by mixed ages of volunteers from Asbury and our community.

Mission Columbus’s next big project will be interior demolition at the Historic Fire Station on the corner of 13th Street & Hutchins Ave. The building, which was built in the 1890’s, is being remodeled for the United Way. Their plan is to move the Staff & Leadership Office, as well as the Volunteer Action Center Operations into the facility by year’s end.

Our contribution to this project will be to remove the existing interior structures down to the studs. Other volunteer organizations will be donating time and skills to remodel once we have completed the demolition work. We have committed to completing this phase of their project during the months of March and April.

Scheduled Work Dates:

  • March 3rd and 4th – These dates are for salvage work. Any of the interior structures that can reasonably be salvaged will be removed on these dates. Workers need to be reasonably skilled in construction and/or careful demolition. The number of workers for these dates is limited.
  • March 24th and 25th – This is the heavy demolition work, and will be done as a blitz by a large crew. Any level of help is welcome on these days.
