Read 2 Kings 17 today.

I think 2 Kings 17 is one of the more significant chapters in the Old Testaments as it helps us understand many things in the News Testament. It includes the fall and exile of Israel (the northern tribes), and the reasons for that fall (unfaithfulness and idolatry).
It also tells how the territory was settled by people brought in by the Assyrians from other lands. Those people brought their religious practices with them, and intermarried with those who remained. This would cause ethnic and religious impurity in those who would become known as the Samaritans. That would have a huge impact on their relationship with the people of Judah, both at that time and continuing through the stories of the New Testament.
Read this chapter and think about the light it sheds on the stories involving Samaritans in the New Testament.
