Read Ezekiel 4 today.

In this chapter we read of the instructions that Ezekiel deliver the message to the people through an action or demonstration. His role was merely to deliver the message. The people had the responsibility for their response to the message.
The message is that God has been very patient with His people, but the day of judgment was coming. Imagine 40 years of bearing with their sinfulness. Then, consider 390 years of doing so. Ultimately, there was a consequence, and it was significant. The fact that it was delayed caused the people to believe it would never come. It is part of our nature to ignore consequences when there is a delay in the timing between our actions and the consequence.
Ezekiel was to symbolically bear the sins of Israel to illustrate the significance of the people’s sin. Jesus would also bear the sins of Israel (and us), but He did so in order to illustrate the significance of God’s love. Our sin is great, and the consequences are equally great. But the love of God, as demonstrated through Christ are even greater. How do we respond to this message from God?
Ezekiel 4:4-6 NLT
“Now lie on your left side and place the sins of Israel on yourself. You are to bear their sins for the number of days you lie there on your side. [5] I am requiring you to bear Israel’s sins for 390 days-one day for each year of their sin. [6] After that, turn over and lie on your right side for 40 days-one day for each year of Judah’s sin.
