Read Haggai 1 today.

Haggai 1:3-6 NLT[3] Then the LORD sent this message through the prophet Haggai: [4] “Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins? [5] This is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies says: Look at what’s happening to you! [6] You have planted much but harvest little. You eat but are not satisfied. You drink but are still thirsty. You put on clothes but cannot keep warm. Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes!
The people had returned to Jerusalem for the purpose of rebuilding the temple after years of exile. Their intent was to rebuild the temple, the place that reminded them of God’s presence among them, the place that reminded them of who God is and who they are as God’s people, the place that reminded them of the importance of worship.
Even so, once they arrived in Jerusalem, their priorities drifted. They had jobs that took more of their time than they expected. There was the constant work in the vineyard, because they didn’t want the neighbor’s vineyard to look better than theirs. The children had school and other events that kept their parents on the run. The family donkey was getting a lot of miles on it and would soon need to be replaced. There was barely enough time to keep up with all of their family and friends on Facebook.
So the priority they placed on acknowledging and worshipping God was being pushed farther and farther down. They began to ignore God. It was unintentional, but real.
How about us? When was the last time you were in worship? I would suggest if it takes you longer than 5 seconds to answer that question, it has been too long.
