Read John 16 today.

In this chapter, Jesus continued to prepare His disciples for what was to come. One of the things that was going to happen is they would be declared outsiders relative to the synagogue.
The question of whether someone or some group is an insider or an outsider is a continuing challenge. Who makes this kind of determination? Is it temporary or permanent? Is it based upon human, cultural standards or God’s standards? There are difficult questions, and one of the challenges is those who were doing the wrong things honestly believed they were offering service to God.
I pray for discernment between God’s will and mine. May I never assume that merely doing what I want to do is an act of service to God.
John 16:1-4 NASB
“These things I have spoken to you so that you may be kept from stumbling. [2] They will make you outcasts from the synagogue, but an hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering service to God. [3] These things they will do because they have not known the Father or Me. [4] But these things I have spoken to you, so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told you of them. These things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you.
