Read Luke 3 today.

This chapter includes the ministry of John the Baptist, Jesus’ baptism, and a list of Jesus’ ancestors.
I find it interesting that almost as soon as John the Baptist declares that it is not enough for a person to claim to be a descendant of Abraham, we find a list proving that Jesus is a descendant of Abraham. Yet this is not the end of Luke’s account. He writes much more about Jesus’ life and ministry. Jesus’ story was much more than merely a list of His ancestors.
The same is true for you and me. We have ancestors. We have people who have invested time and effort into our development and growth. It is up to us to make choices about how we will live. Will we live in relationship with God? Or will we live (and die) apart from God?
What is your story?
Luke 3:8 NLT
Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God. Don’t just say to each other, ‘We’re safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.’ That means nothing, for I tell you, God can create children of Abraham from these very stones.
