Read Revelation 3 today.

This chapter continues the letters to the seven churches. As I read these, I wondered if the churches would have been surprised by what they read. I wonder if they even suspected they had drifted away from where they had once been. Did it happen in an instant, as a result of a conscious decision? Or did it happen gradually, while they were not paying attention? I suspect it was the latter.
In applying that possibility to our lives, what do we need to do to keep ourselves close to God? To avoid drifting away from Him? What discipline do you need to incorporate into your daily life to keep you aware of God, and close to God?
Revelation 3:1-3 NLT
“Write this letter to the angel of the church in Sardis. This is the message from the one who has the sevenfold Spirit of God and the seven stars: “I know all the things you do, and that you have a reputation for being alive-but you are dead. [2] Wake up! Strengthen what little remains, for even what is left is almost dead. I find that your actions do not meet the requirements of my God. [3] Go back to what you heard and believed at first; hold to it firmly. Repent and turn to me again. If you don’t wake up, I will come to you suddenly, as unexpected as a thief.
