Read Zechariah 4 today.

Zechariah 4:6-7 NLT[6] Then he said to me, “This is what the LORD says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. [7] Nothing, not even a mighty mountain, will stand in Zerubbabel’s way; it will become a level plain before him! And when Zerubbabel sets the final stone of the Temple in place, the people will shout: ‘May God bless it! May God bless it!’”
One of the things Zerubbabel was tasked with doing was rebuilding the temple. There would be many obstacles in the way of accomplishing this task. Yet this was not a task to be completed by the strength of Zerubbabel, it would be completed only by the power of God’s spirit.
There are times when God gives each of us assignments. Those assignments may not seem as significant as building a temple. It may be as simple as smiling at the irritating person in the checkout line. It may be as challenging as forgiving someone who has harmed us greatly. It may push us out of our comfort zone by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with someone who has never heard. God’s assignments are not to be carried out by our power, our strength, our cleverness, our creativity, our will, or our perseverance. It is only by the Spirit of God working through us that we accomplish God-sized tasks.
What has God placed on your agenda for today? Are you attempting to accomplish it through your efforts, or His Spirit?
